UN Women and technology leaders launched Global Innovation Coalition for Change for accelerating transformative change in innovations
UN Women launched the Global Innovation Coalition for Change (GICC), a partnership between UN Women and key representatives from the private sector, academia and nonprofit institutions. The GICC is a two-year period initiative and aims to accelerate transformative change in innovations in science, technology, policies, management and finance for working better for young women and girls.
In the background paper published in this September, UN women identifies several barriers that could lead to continuing the gender gap in innovation and technology as follows:
- Limited market awareness and investment in innovations that meet the needs of women
- Gender-blind approach to innovation
- Under-representation of women as innovators and entrepreneurs
UN Women also shows the concrete action for addressing these barriers in the background paper.
