IAEA report the possibility of expansion of nuclear power up to 2050
On 7 August, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) announced the 2017 version of a report that describes the current status and future prospects of international nuclear power development. Despite a slowing trend in the recent few years, the report shows that the nuclear capacity may be as twice as the current level in the high case in 2050. The report analyses the factors which could influence the future of nuclear power, such as funding and financing, electricity markets and public acceptance. If nuclear power’s potential as a low-carbon energy source grows in recognition and advanced reactor designs further improve both safety and radioactive waste management, the use of nuclear power could grow significantly, the report says. The detailed account is published annually in the IAEA’s publication Energy, Electricity and Nuclear Power Estimates for the Period up to 2050. Its 37th edition will be published in September 2017.
